醜い勝者もいれば美しい敗者もいる。
昔、フェンシングの世界大会決勝で日本人とフィンランド人が戦い、
あからさまなフィンランド人びいきがあったそうだ。
日本人がいくら技を決めても一向に審判はポイントを取らない。
それが何度も何度も続いた。
すると突然そのフィンランドの選手が試合を止め、防具を取り
審判に向かってこう言った。
「貴様!これ以上私に恥をかかせるつもりか!?一度や二度のミスジャッジなら運が良かったと喜ぶだろう。
しかしこれは何だ？明らかに不正ジャッジだ！」
そして対戦相手の日本人の方を見てこう続けた。
「この試合の勝者は君だ。素晴らしい技術だった。金メダルは君のものだ。おめでとう。」
そう言い残し、試合放棄し、会場を去っていった。

タイガー・モリこと森寅雄氏がフェンシングの世界大会で相手選手に言われたもの。
大会自体は正確な記録は残っていないが戦後直後のものだと思われる
